Welcome! SoundBuilder is a sound editor and recording application. SoundBuilder should run on any Macintosh with System 7 or later. Recording requires that a sound input device also be attached to your Mac. Only 8-bit, mono sounds are supported in version 1.0.1.

Version 1.0.1 additions
---------------------
The following changes were made between versions 1.0 and 1.0.1:
- All files can now be opened via drag and drop in the Finder.
- Wave files created by SoundBuilder are now imported as wave files when opened from the Finder and via the Command-Shift-O command. Wave files created by another application are still read in as resource files unless opened with the Import command.
- A bug causing incorrect sample rates to be written to some wave files has been corrected.
- As some sound resources have turned out to be specified as neither mono nor stereo in their sound header, any sound resource not specifically specified as stereo will be read in as a mono sound. Stereo sounds are rejected.
- A bug was fixed which prevented resource files from being opened. Whether or not the program worked seemed to be hardware dependent. SoundBuilder should now work on all systems.
- SoundBuilder now handles the editing of non-sound files properly. Files that are not System 7 Sounds or of SoundBuilder's native file format are opened as resource files. You may then edit any sound resources found in the file or add your own to the file.
- The document icon definitions have changed. If you're upgrading from version 1.0 and don't see the new icons, try rebooting. If you still don't see them, try rebuilding your desktop.
- Deactivated "Next" button while a sound is playing.
- The manual has been updated to reflect the above changes.
Distribution of SoundBuilder

Feel free to distribute this program. However, SoundBuilder may not be distributed for a profit without prior approval from the author. Distribution via an electronic bulletin board is acceptable as long as there are no fees above normal charges. Also, SoundBuilder must be distributed in the original archived format which includes the following items:

Bugs/Technical Support

This is the first release of SoundBuilder and although I've tried to test it as extensively as possible, my resources are somewhat limited and there may still be a few bugs. Testing has been done on a Mac IIsi running System 7.1 with 9 MB of RAM and an Apple Computer microphone. I would very much like to hear about any problems that you encounter. Since I'm interested in how widely the program is used, I put that annoying little registration box in the program. Entering a valid serial number will make it go away. Hints

- The user manual was written in a word processor and then saved in "Rich Text Format" (RTF) so most standard word processors should be able to read it. It was written with the Postscript font Palatino.
- SoundBuilder's application signature (KWAR) and native file type (KASF) are NOT registered with Apple as of yet. Because of this there is the potential to confuse the operating system as to what files belong with what application. Also, "wave" files are exported as an unregistered file type of KAWV.
- To set a marker, hold the option key down while clicking in the sound window.
- To play what's in the clipboard, hold the option key down while clicking in the clipboard window.
- To open a file that is not a System 7 sound file or in SoundBuilder's native format, hold the shift key down when choosing the Open command.
